LAKELAND - Hot diggity dog! The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile is coming!

Lakeland residents will have three chances this month to check out the 27-foot tubular vehicle from the outside and inside. Its drivers pass out wiener whistles to celebrate the hot dog maker's 125th anniversary.

A Wienermobile of one vintage or another has been on the road since 1936.

Here's when and where to catch the fleet frankfurter as it tours Lakeland: Oct. 16, 3 to 6 p.m., Publix, 3636 Harden Blvd.; Oct. 17: 5 to 10:30 p.m. at the Mercedes-Benz Lake Mirror Classic Auto Festival., 121 S. Lake Ave.; and Oct. 18, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the car show downtown.

No Need To Panic, It's Going To Be Organic

TAMPA - Put down that Big Mac and fries.

Hillsborough County is starting an organic garden and officials want your thoughts.

The plan: Construct a nonprofit organic garden and education center where members can grow Earth-friendly produce to eat.

Instead of fertilizer, organizers plan to spread lessons in environmental responsibility.

Members will pay a seasonal fee and get a weekly share of the harvest - herbs, fruit, vegetables, greens and flowers. Any excess will be sold at a farmer's market.

VISTA Gardens - that's Village Institute for Sustainable Technologies and Agriculture - will be built on 3.3 acres of county land at 13572 S. Village Drive.

Talk about it at the Carrollwood Cultural Center Annex, 13345 Casey Road, Tampa, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Pumpkin Time Rolls Into Plant City

PLANT CITY - It wouldn't seem like fall - or Halloween - in downtown Plant City without hundreds of bright orange pumpkins spread out on the lawn of First United Methodist Church.

The rite of autumn starts Thursday when the pumpkin patch returns to the church at 303 N. Evers St.

The shipment of more than 1,300 pumpkins is expected to arrive at 4:30 p.m. Church members, Boy Scouts, children and others will help unload the fall favorites.

The sale runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily until Oct. 31. Prices for the smallest pumpkins start at 25 cents and the biggest ones are about $15 to $18. Indian and strawberry corn, decorative corn stalks, gourds and squash will also be for sale at the church, across from City Hall.
