Pasco County School Events

CYPRESS ELEMENTARY:Active Parenting classes will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today.
Banking Day will be today. The fall catalog sale also will begin.
Health screenings will be Wednesday.
Friday is Primary Popcorn Day and School Spirit Day. Students are encouraged to wear green.

DEER PARK ELEMENTARY: The school is again partnering with the All Children's Hospital Safe Kids Coalition for Walk to School Day on Wednesday. Families can join school staff members at the following locations at 8 a.m. and walk to school about 8:15 a.m.

* SunTrust Bank parking lot (River Crossing)

DOUBLE BRANCH ELEMENTARY: The PTA will hold a barbecue from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday. Advance tickets are $3.75 for kids and $5.75 for adults. Tickets purchased Friday will be $4.50 and $6.50. The event will also include a silent auction, games, music, line dancing and an old-fashioned fire truck. Wrist bands granting access to all of the entertainment cost $10.

GULF HIGH: The athletic booster club will host the Buccaneer Alumni Invasion Oct. 24 and 25.
Friday night's kickoff event will be at Fatty and Mabel's restaurant in Port Richey, starting at 8 p.m. Saturday's events will start with a Fore Fun golf tournament at Magnolia Valley Golf Club, beginning at 9 a.m. The cost is $50 per player. Pit Boss Barbecue will host a pregame barbecue at 4 p.m. at the football stadium; tickets are $15 per person. Prior to the game, all returning alumni will be invited to fill the field for an aerial photograph.

HUDSON ELEMENTARY: The school will offer book discussions once a month in the media center. The discussions will be led by media specialist Michelle Lott. The books can be checked out from the school media center or the public library. Most of the titles are the current Sunshine State Young Readers books for grades six through eight, with the exception of those read during Banned Books Week.

NORTHWEST ELEMENTARY: The PTO will meet and host an ice cream social today.
McMustang Night will be celebrated from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at McDonald's.
The School Advisory Council will meet from 8 to 9 a.m. Tuesday.

OAKSTEAD ELEMENTARY: The late-night book fair will be open until 8 p.m. Thursday in the media center.

PINE VIEW ELEMENTARY: Market Day pickup will take place from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday.

RUSHE MIDDLE: The school will offer a family reading academy today for all parents of intensive reading and content area reading students. The program, which will run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., will present an overview of Rushe's intensive reading program, along with progress monitoring of students.
Students will take part in the Book Blasters activity Wednesday with the Pasco County Public Library System.
The Spain Delegation will visit Thursday.

SANDERS ELEMENTARY: The school will host an open house, ice cream social and PTA meeting for kindergarten, first, second and third grade teams from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today.
McSanders Night will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
There will be an open house, ice cream social and PTA meeting for fourth and fifth grade and the Rising Stars team from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
The book fair will start Friday and run through Oct. 16. Students can buy books from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

WESLEY CHAPEL HIGH: Ninth-graders will learn how to map out high school courses and set goals through in their English classes today, Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test will be given Oct. 15. Students can sign up with a $13 registration fee during lunch today, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.
Herff Jones will be on campus during lunch to take orders for senior caps and gowns and optional accessories Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Juniors can place class ring orders during lunches Tuesday through Oct. 14.
The drama department will present "Harvey" at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Center for the Arts.

WEST ZEPHYRHILLS ELEMENTARY: The school will host Active Parenting classes for children between ages 1 to 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The workshops will be in the media center for three weeks. For information, call (813) 794-6300.
The supervisor of elections office will provide voting machines for intermediate students to vote for the upcoming student council elections Wednesday.
Volunteer and business partners are invited to volunteer meetings from 10 to 11 a.m. or 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the media center. Current volunteers or those wanting to help are welcome. For information, call (813) 794-6300.

WIREGRASS HIGH: Parent University at the Ranch will meet from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Among the topics covered: safe driving for teens, the collage application process, prescription drug dangers and writing tips.

WOODLAND ELEMENTARY: The PTA will hold a golf scramble for kids Oct. 18 at Silverado Golf & Country Club. The proceeds will be used to purchase playground equipment. Support the project by sponsoring a hole for $100 or $200 for a team. Applications can be downloaded from wes.pasco.k12.fl.us.
