TAMPA - Shannon Lise took his 5-year-old son on a high-speed chase Sunday night, Tampa police say.
Officers in the Robles Park Apartments saw Lise's black Chevrolet traveling north on Hayden Court without headlights on at 10:44 p.m. Sunday. They activated lights and sirens, stopping the vehicle near Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Interstate 275.
When officers exited a marked patrol vehicle, Lise sped off, driving north on I-275, a police report states. Officers pursued him, boxing in his Chevrolet as it exited onto East Hillsborough Avenue.
One officer approached Lise's vehicle with a firearm and told him to show his hands.
Lise's son was "extremely frightened, crying hysterically and shaking," according to the report.
Lise was told to get out of the Chevrolet. He didn't, so officers removed him from the vehicle. He then tightened his body so it would be difficult for officers to put on handcuffs, police say.
The officers "delivered knee strikes to the defendants side to gain compliance, which were effective," the report states.
Officers later determined Lise had a suspended license and had been trespassing at Robles Park Apartments, according to the report. The child's mother came to the scene and took the boy, and the Department of Children & Families was contacted.
Lise, 31, of Tampa, was charged with child abuse by neglect, fleeing to elude, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, resisting arrest without violence and trespassing.
He remained in Orient Road Jail today. His bail was set at $5,500.
