Tropical Storm Marco Forms On Mexican Gulf Coast

MIAMI - The National Hurricane Center says Tropical Storm Marco has formed off Mexico's Gulf Coast with maximum sustained winds near 65 mph.

Mexico's government has issued a hurricane watch for the country's Gulf coast from Cabo Rojo south to Veracruz. A tropical storm warning is in effect for the coast from Cabo Rojo south to Punta El Lagarto.

At 5 p.m. EDT, the storm was centered about 100 miles east of Veracruz and moving to the west-northwest near 9 mph. Forecasters say the center could come ashore late Monday or early Tuesday.

Meanwhile, in the Pacific, Tropical storm Norbert was nearing hurricane strength with top winds near 70 mph. At 5 p.m., the storm was centered about 320 miles south of Manzanillo and moving north at about 8 mph.
