Florida's Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink has set up a task force to protect the state's elderly from financial fraud. The task force had its first meeting Monday in Tampa, hearing from victims with an eye on proposing legislation to toughen state statutes.
ADVICE:
Don't trust anyone too much. Read everything before signing. If you don't understand something, make the person keep explaining it until you do. When in doubt, ask a lawyer, friend or family member to review it.
HOT LINE:
If you have questions or want to report suspicious financial activity, call Sink's office's hot line: 1-877-MY-FL-CFO (693-5236).

WHAT'S NEXT
The task force will meet over the coming months to come up with prospective laws to be presented to the state Legislature to consider during its spring session. In the interim, the group will work on seeing how to adapt existing laws to test crimes and the best way to prosecute them.
