TAMPA - Tampa Prep volleyball coach Mike Flynn doesn't panic when his team is in a close match.
He knows that's when his players rise to the occasion.
"We've been in big-time battles this year," he said.
After an early battle with Bayshore Christian in Game 1, in which the score was tied five times, the Terrapins jumped to early leads in the second and third to games to go on and sweep the Faith Warriors, 25-18, 25-19, 25-19.
"Once that second game comes around, we have an idea of what the other team is doing and we capitalize on it," Flynn said.
Senior outside hitter Alena Ransom led Tampa Prep (8-7) with 15 kills and five aces, while middle hitter Dana Malinowski added seven kills and four digs. Setter Caroline Dillabough finished with 32 assists and 11 digs.
Sophomore hitter Gabby Fernandez led the Faith Warriors (10-7) with 11 kills and 12 digs.
"We were sticking with them, but when they pulled us down, we couldn't cope with it," Bayshore Christian coach Melanie Humenansky said.
