TAMPA - The Tampa Bay Rays continue their run for the American League pennant Friday against the Boston Red Sox. A beach pep rally is scheduled for Thursday to stir up support.
The rally will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at the TradeWinds Island Resort in St. Pete Beach. The event is free and open to the public.
The rally will feature music by Buck Dharma, lead singer of the rock band Blue Oyster Cult; Robin Zander, lead singer for Cheap Trick; and the Greg Billings Band, organizers said.
Raymond, the team's mascot, will be there.
A fireworks display is planned for the end of the rally, which also will feature sand sculptures, bounce houses and slides, and beach volleyball.
Refreshments will be available for purchase.
The resort is at 5500 Gulf Blvd.
The event is open to the public. Parking is available for $10 at the TradeWinds properties.
The Rays and Red Sox open the AL Championship Series on Friday at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg. The best-of-seven series winner advances to the World Series.
