Now in its 11th year, International Walk to School Day is expected to include 3,000 schools from all 50 states.
The idea is for students, parents and teachers to walk to school together with a purpose to promote health, safety, physical activity and concern for the environment.
The U.S. event coincides with those in 36 countries around the world. Today's walk to school is part of a week of festivities celebrating International Walk to School Week, Oct. 6-10.
