Army Officer Arrested In Tampa Prostitution Sting

An undercover prostitution sting early this morning snared an Army Special Forces major assigned to MacDill Air Force Base, police said.

Steven Paul Barr, 37, of Columbia, S.C., was being held at Orient Road Jail today. Bail was set at $250. He is charged with soliciting someone to commit prostitution, a misdemeanor.

Barr, who was assigned to Fort Bragg, offered an undercover female officer $100 for sex at his hotel room, the Embassy Suites, Tampa police said. Police arrested him at 3:07 a.m. at North Nebraska Avenue and East McBerry Street and impounded his rental vehicle, a preliminary report states.
