St. Pete Beach Resort To Host Rays Pep Rally

ST. PETE BEACH - A beachside pep rally is planned for today, the day before the Tampa Bay Rays take on the Boston Red Sox in the American League Championship Series.

The rally will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at the TradeWinds Island Resort in St. Pete Beach. The event is free and open to the public.

The rally will feature music by Buck Dharma, lead singer of the rock band Blue Oyster Cult; Robin Zander, lead singer for Cheap Trick; and the Greg Billings Band, organizers said. Raymond, the team's mascot, also will be there.

A fireworks display is planned for the end of the rally, which also will feature sand sculptures, bounce houses and slides, and beach volleyball.

Refreshments will be sold.

The resort is at 5500 Gulf Blvd.

The event is open to the public. Parking is available for $10 at the TradeWinds properties.

The Rays and Red Sox open the ALCS on Friday evening at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.

The best-of-seven series winner advances to the World Series.
