Hospice Store Is 'Treasure Chest'

NEW PORT RICHEY - The Hospice Thrift Store & More, at 6528 Massachusetts Ave., is Hernando-Pasco Hospice's "treasure chest of gently used items." From 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, the store will celebrate its fifth anniversary with special sales plus surprises for customers.

Since the store opened in 2003, more than 468,000 items have been sold with income directly supporting HPH's patient and family care programs, said Shirley Skinner, store operations manager, in a news release. "Our store has welcomed about 170,000 customers, and we are grateful to our customers, the community, donors and our loyal volunteers."

Cake will be served from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or until it lasts and there will be door prize drawings on the hour from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Adults and children will receive a small gift and wedding dresses will be available for purchase, according to Skinner. For those involved in home projects, there will be a selection of tools.

In May 2007, the Hospice Thrift Store & More moved from its original location in East Richey Square to a larger space within the same complex. "The newer space has more room for donations and provides a pleasant, small department store shopping experience for customers," Skinner said in the release.

The merchandise changes daily but boutique business, everyday and casual clothing for adults and children are available as well as furniture, collectibles, books, accessories, holiday and household items.

The Hospice Thrift Store & More is HPH's only thrift store in the agency's service areas of Pasco, Hernando and Citrus counties.

Pick up of large and bulky items is available at no charge by calling the store at (727) 841-7356.

Donations of smaller items can be dropped off from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturdays. For information about the store, to online to www.hphospice.org. or call (727) 841-7356.
