Smith, Brown Commit To Florida Gulf Coast
Brandon senior catcher/first baseman Mike Smith and Bloomingdale senior pitcher R.J. Brown each have verbally committed to Florida Gulf Coast.
Smith was a key member of Brandon's state semifinal squad last season. He hit .404 with nine doubles, four homers with 32 RBIs and 31 runs scored.
Brown went 5-2 with a 2.91 ERA for the Bulls as a junior. He struck out 37 and walked 12 in 45 2/3 innings pitched.
SOFTBALL: King softball coach Jessica Rice announced that senior shortstop/catcher Kirstin Austin has verbally committed to Florida Atlantic.
As a junior, Austin batted .586 with 34 hits, 28 runs and nine RBIs.
BOYS BASKETBALL: King senior power forward Toarlyn Fitzpatrick has committed to Georgia Southern, according to Rivals.com. Fitzpatrick, who currently has 1,594 career points, was named to the Tribune all-county second team as a junior after averaging 15.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.
