TAMPA - A 34-year-old man is accused of impregnating a 17-year-old runaway with whom he had a consensual sexual relationship, an affidavit states.
Ramiro Perez-Garcia of Tampa is charged with felony unlawful sexual activity with certain minors and felony interference with child custody. He was being held at Orient Road Jail today, and bail was set at $19,000, jail records show.
"Unlawful sexual activity with certain minors" applies to an adult 24 or older who engages in sexual activity with a 16- or 17-year-old who has not been declared an adult by a court of law. It is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office arrested Perez-Garcia about 3 p.m. today at East Bearss Avenue and Skipper Road, records show.
According to an affidavit, Perez-Garcia and the girl have had a consensual sexual relationship since May at his apartment on Skipper Road. Perez-Garcia knew the girl was a runaway but did not notify authorities, the affidavit states.
The girl is pregnant with his child, the affidavit states.
