St. Petersburg Artist's Works On Farewell Tour

Published: October 10, 2008

It's not just the Tampa Bay Rays making history in St. Petersburg this weekend. You can also catch St. Petersburg native Erik Jones' first solo art show.

Pale Horse Gallery presents the "New Collected Works of Erik Jones" from Saturday through Oct. 16. The event is free, and the gallery is steps away from Tropicana Field so you may be able to wait out playoff traffic while getting cultured.

"It's really simple and beautiful. Everything was made in the last year, and most was done in the last 2 months. I've been working my little butt off," says Jones, 26, who graduated from Ringling College of Art and Design in 2007. "I really wanted to show, especially around where I am from and at places that I really like."

Jones has an affinity for women and the comic book style of drawing. (Be warned: there is explicit content.) His work is edgy with some art nouveau movements.

"I'm a big fan of his work; he has a really cool and interesting style," says Chris Parks, owner of Pale Horse. "He does a modern day pin up style and it really fits in with what we like to do here. He's moving to New York. It sucks to lose the local talent."

Before Jones leaves Florida, his collected works will be on display at Store 101 in Gainesville on Oct. 18 and Uberbot in Orlando on Oct. 25. He will also unveil his clothing line at Pale Horse.

"I'm not looking to make a lot of money," Jones says of the solo shows. "It's more of a goodbye and a night of good art and people."
