PORT RICHEY - No piece of art is complete without matting and framing. Whether it's simple black or ornamental, a frame can give a piece the final touches it needs to set it off.
Art lovers who buy frames at No Naked Walls in New Port Richey this weekend can get a good deal and support the arts.
The shop, at 6736 Ridge Road, is sponsoring a fundraiser Saturday and Sunday to benefit the nonprofit Progress Energy Art Gallery downtown. Greater New Port Richey Main Street opened the community gallery, which received a substantial grant from Progress Energy, to encourage the growth of art and culture downtown.
Hundreds of standard and nonstandard-sized frames will be available at reduced prices, starting at $5, depending on the size and the material. A limited number of precut mats in standards sizes will be available, too.
Glass and custom matting will not be included in the sale but will be available for purchase. No Naked Walls owner Ron Urbanovitch said he will donate a percentage of those sales to the gallery.
Urbanovitch and his family have been saving leftover framing from minimum order requirements and are using those for the benefit.
"He could have disposed of the frame stock, but he made this wonderful offer to the gallery," said Karren Tolliver, the director of the Progress Energy Art Gallery.
"This is yet another astounding show of support that Ron and his family have extended to the gallery," she said.
