TAMPA - In a match of two of the top Class 5A volleyball teams in the state, nationally ranked Plant handed previously undefeated Brandon its first loss of the season with a three-game sweep, 25-13, 25-7, 25-12, on Thursday.
Senior hitter Danielle Erb led Plant (16-3) with 19 kills while junior Maddie Martin added 12. Setter Becca Howard finished with 45 assists and junior libero Ali McCurdy had 14 digs and 10 aces.
Brandon's biggest lead of the night was 4-2 in Game 1.
"We knew they had a good record and Brandon coach Amy Watson has done a great job with her team," Plant coach Leanna Taylor said. "I still think we could have played better."
Lindsey Watson led Brandon (17-1) with five kills.
Meanwhile, Taylor said senior hitter Ariel Ley has decided to play for Davidson.
