TAMPA - A 27-year-old Tampa man was jailed early this morning, accused of going after an acquaintance with a butcher knife and jabbing the 8-inch blade through a screen door to get at the victim.
Jorge Alberto Rios-Vega, 14205-C 19th St., told Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies that he only was trying to scare the 42-year-old victim, who was not identified in arrest papers.
The incident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. today at Rios-Vega's home, the arrest report said. Some sort of argument was taking place when Rios-Vega grabbed the butcher knife, the report said, and lunged toward the victim, who ran out the door and held it closed to keep Rios-Vega in.
Deputies said Rios-Vega stabbed through the screen during his attack, "trying to stab the victim."
He was charged with aggravated assault and remained in the Orient Road Jail Saturday afternoon. Bail was set at $2,000.
