BRADENTON - Three good Samaritans who offered rides to two young men were robbed and pistol-whipped for their trouble Friday night. No one was seriously injured and the two attackers remained at large this morning.
The ordeal for the three victims, whose names are not being released because the robbers were not in custody, began shortly before 9 p.m. at the Wendy's restaurant off 14th Street West, according to Manatee County sheriff's deputies.
The two men, described as being in their late teens or early 20s, asked the three for a ride, and once inside the car the men pulled guns, deputies said. One of the victims was pistol-whipped, but was not seriously injured. The thieves collected more than $2,200 worth of undisclosed belongings and hopped out of the car in the 5500 block of West 26th Street in Bradenton.
Two men in another vehicle were waiting and the attackers got into that vehicle and drove off, deputies said.
