A Polk County deputy, transporting a prisoner in his patrol car last night, was hit by a motorcycle, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
According to a release:
Deputy Tim Marcoux, 30, was traveling south on Willis Road at about 8:30 p.m. when he crossed onto Highway 60 to go eastbound. As he did, his patrol car was struck in the driver's door area by a westbound motorcycle.
The motorcycle driver – 34-year-old Robert M. Mayfield, of Valrico - was transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
The prisoner, arrested for traffic violations, was treated and released from Bartow Regional Medical Center. He was then booked into the county jail. His name was not released.
Marcoux, a two-and-a-half-year veteran, was also taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
Marcoux's patrol car sustained significant damage to the driver door and rocker panel area. The motorcycle sustained major front-end damage.
Mayfield was not wearing a helmet.
