TAMPA - Reserve Tampa police Officer Jim McMahon applauded as runners loped by him on the west side of the Platt Street Bridge early this morning.
"You're doing good," said his partner, reserve officer Andy McIntyre as between 1,500 and 2,000 runners and walkers participated in the Tampa police 5K/1 mile run and walk to honor fallen officers.
"Thank you," McMahon shouted.
Downtown Tampa was awash in walkers and runners this morning, all starting out near Tampa police headquarters in the early morning gray light. They made their way south and onto Bayshore Boulevard for the scenic leg to Edison Avenue and back.
The event is in its 14th year. Each participant paid a $15 fee and the money is going to the Tampa Police Museum, the police memorial scholarship program and Tampa police memorial improvement program.
