THE DIFFERENCE: Newsome sophomore kicker Tony Zaccario drilled a deciding 21-yard field goal in the first minute of the fourth quarter to give the Wolves a win against district rival Brandon.
GAME NOTES: Both Newsome and Brandon struggled in the game as sloppy field conditions limited both offenses, with the Wolves turning the ball over twice on fumbles in the first quarter. ... The Wolves defense more than picked up for the lack of offense as defensive linemen Garrett Fuglaar and Shawn Boone had two sacks each in the game. ... Newsome linebacker Josh Bowers added a first-quarter interception. ... The Wolves defense didn't look any stronger then in the Eagles last drive when Boone came through with a big sack on third down and Frank Marin blocked a 34-yard field goal attempt giving Newsome the ball with 16 second left in the game. ... The Eagles offense never found a rhythm as four different players attempted passes. Sean Watson started at quarterback and completed two passes for 50 yards but his third pass was intercepted by Bowers.
STAT OF THE GAME: In the first half the Eagles offense had 45 yards of offense despite a total of minus-17 yards on the ground.
QUOTE OF THE GAME: "All the defense stepped up tonight when it was crunch time and I can't say anything more than it was a great win. This was a great show of our defense." - Newsome junior defensive linemen Shawn Boone
