Wharton Girls Win Gator Invitational CC Meet

CREWS LAKE PARK - Wharton High won the girls team title Saturday at the 12th Annual Gator Invitational Cross Country.
Wharton had 61 points to beat Lake Region. Land O' Lakes was fifth with 197 points. Wiregrass Ranch was sixth with 215 points. Gaither was seventh with 217 points.

"We had a more conservative approach today,'' said Wharton assistant coach Nicole Schramski. "We were not going out as fast as usual. That's what we expect."

Sydney Devore of Lake Region won the girls individual race with a time of 18 minutes, 52 seconds. Wesley Chapel's Jessica Furst was second with 20:02. Land O' Lakes' Alyssa Brandt was third with a 20:06. Wiregrass Ranch's Ariel Grey was fourth with a 20:11 time.

Orlando Timber Creek won the boys title with 86 points. Fort Myers Estero was second with 121 points. Chamberlain was third with 130 points. Land O' Lakes was fifth with 185 points. Wharton was sixth with 212 points.

"They came in maybe a little slow,'' said Chamberlain coach Bill Strack. "Mark (Parrish) was off a little."
Estero's Erick Montoya won the boys race with a time of 16:05. Land O' Lakes senior Felix Soto was second with a 16:14 clocking. Chamberlain's Mark Parrish was third with a 16:27.
