A Pinellas County Jail inmate died Sunday after he complained of chest pains to deputies and medical staff, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.
Alvin Harris, 54, of 2420 Melrose Ave. S., St. Petersburg, was having a video visitation with a family member shortly before 5 p.m. During the visit, he started feeling chest pains and Harris' relative asked jail employees for help, the sheriff's office said.
Harris was taken to Northside Hospital, where he died at 5:44 p.m. Detectives say Harris' death does not appear to be suspicious. An autopsy will be performed to determine cause of death.
Harris was charged with possession of a controlled substance and booked in to Pinellas County Jail on Aug. 2. He had recently been sentenced to state prison, the sheriff's office said.
