TAMPA - A 20-year-old man was shot in the leg while borrowing a gun this morning, the Tampa Police Department said.
Police said the shooting appeared to be an accident but the case is still under investigation.
Russell Bryd of Woodlawn Avenue was at St. Joseph's Hospital in stable but guarded condition after surgery to repair an artery severed by the bullet, police said.
Byrd was arguing with his sister's boyfriend when he left and called a friend to borrow a gun. The report said the two met at the corner of Ola and Woodlawn avenues about 10:18 a.m.
The friend, who police did not identify, tried to clear a bullet from the chamber of the gun and it went off, striking Byrd in the upper leg, police said. Neighbors took him to the hospital.
