WHO'S HOT

Newsome - The Wolves have won three of their past four, and a big reason is the defense, which has posted two consecutive shutouts.

Hillsborough - The Terriers have won three in a row, and two of those wins came in crucial Class 4A-District 11 matchups.

Gaither - The Cowboys have won two in a row and three of their past four to get back to .500.

WHO'S NOT

East Bay - After starting the season 2-0, the Indians have dropped three of their past four.

King - The Lions have dropped four consecutive games after a 1-1 start.

Jesuit - The Tigers started the season with four consecutive wins but have dropped two in a row.

MILESTONE ON TAP

One of the most respected individuals in Hillsborough County football history will go for a personal milestone this week.

Longtime Chamberlain coach Billy Turner will go for career win No. 250 when the undefeated Chiefs host Jefferson on Thursday.

Turner, in his 30th season on the Chamberlain sideline and 38th overall as a head coach, picked up win No. 249 with the Chiefs' victory over Sickles on Friday. Turner's all-time record is 249-151-1, counting his eight seasons as Hillsborough's head coach. Turner's victory total is the most in county history.

The challenge that awaits Thursday isn't an easy one, however. Not only is Jefferson a formidable opponent, but Turner hasn't had much luck against the Dragons in recent years.

In fact, Chamberlain's 21-14 victory over the Dragons last season is the Chiefs' only win against Jefferson this decade (in five meetings).

OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION

Blessed with a plethora of playmakers that includes running back Lindsey Lamar, quarterback Tarean Austin and receivers Colby Walden and Charles Lovett, among others, the Hillsborough Terriers have become one of Hillsborough County's top offensive teams.

Just how good have they been? Well, in addition to averaging 38.6 points through six games this season, the Terriers (5-1) managed do something Friday night they hadn't done in six years.

Hillsborough scored 59 points in Friday's win over Freedom, marking the second consecutive week the team scored 50-plus points. It is the first time the Terriers have scored 50 or more in consecutive weeks since Sept. 13 and 20, 2002.

BY THE NUMBERS

Total points Tampa Catholic's defense has allowed during the Crusaders' three-game win streak.
