TAMPA - Tampa Bay's rivalry with Carolina has unfortunately been a painful one for Bucs fans.
Not only are the Panthers 5-2 in Tampa (5-1 under Coach John Fox), this game also has become unlucky for Bucs players. Chris Simms lost his spleen two years ago against Carolina, while Cadillac Williams and Luke Petitgout each suffered season-ending knee injuries last year.
While the Bucs are hoping to escape this game without another major injury, Tampa Bay TE Jerramy Stevens took time to answer questions about the painful things in life for this week's Wide Right column.
Anwar: Who is the biggest pain in the butt on this team?
Jerramy: I'll say Serg Sergey Ivanov. He's always in the way. He's the stiffest guy on the field. He doesn't ever move. He's always in the way.
Anwar: Which was a more painful music group breakup - Dru Hill or Jodeci?
Jerramy: Jodeci because that was the '90s as far as R&B was concerned. In my neck of the woods, my dad's side is from Atlanta, and they liked Jodeci. Growing up in middle school and high school, they had all the love jams.
Anwar: Who is more painful singer - William Hung or Paris Hilton?
Jerramy: William Hung, man. They are both bad, but William Hung was trying to be bad and he succeeded and it was pitiful.
Anwar: What is the most painful part about losing the last game of a season?
Jerramy: It's just knowing your season is over. There is only one team that is happy at the end of the season, and it is the Super Bowl champs. If you get to the Super Bowl and win it, you don't spend your entire offseason thinking about what you could have been.
Anwar: Which is more painful to be around - a person with bad breath or body odor?
Jerramy: Bad breath because we're all working out and you're going to smell some funk. Pads stink, jerseys stink, but bad breath? Come on, brush your teeth. Chew some gum at least. We have piles of gum outside, so do that, please.
Anwar: Who would you endure more pain for - Stacey Dash, Megan Fox, Eva Mendes or Jennifer Lopez?
Jerramy: Early J-Lo, like 1998 or 1999 J-Lo, I like. Right now, I'd have to say Eva Mendes because she's bad. I like her.
Anwar: How painful is it to be on the bench and not play in a game?
Jerramy: It's the second roughest football situation I've been in. You prepare yourself, but when you're used to playing, you're used to being a big part of the team. When you're not playing, you sometimes feel like you're worthless to helping the team win. It's a hard situation for somebody, including me, to deal with.
Anwar: Whose iPod would it be more painful to listen to - Jon Gruden's or Chris Hovan's?
Jerramy: Gruden. And it would be older stuff. Hovan might have some heavy metal, some guitar rock, and I can get through that. The old school Bee Gees, that might be on Gruden's and I couldn't do it.
Anwar: Which hurt you most - Dave Chappelle walking away from his show or the cancellation of Arsenio Hall's show?
Jerramy: I think Chappelle walking away from his show, even though I respect the reason he did it. He felt like he was being compromised ethically and I can respect that, but the Chappelle Show was comedy, man. Everybody was laughing at that. It was enjoyment for a lot of people.
Anwar: What is the most physical pain you've been in?
Jerramy: I once broke my foot and they had to put a screw in and they didn't give me enough anesthesia. I was so big and they didn't give me the right dosage. I woke up an hour early and was screaming. They knocked me back out. I felt like I was dreaming when I woke back up.
Anwar: What is the most painful beating you received from your parents?
Jerramy: I can remember the worst beating I got. It wasn't painful because of the physical part, but it was painful because of the trauma of the situation. When I was a little, I set these trees on fire by my house and I called the fire department. I was putting it out, and right as I was getting it out, my dad pulled up and that trauma from the look in his eye lasted a lifetime for me.
Anwar: Did you get the belt or the hand?
Jerramy: I got everything. I got the hand on the way to the belt. I also got the belt. I got worked over.
Anwar: How painful would a loss to Carolina be?
Jerramy: It would be painful because we're playing for the lead in our division. It's a big deal because we're trying to get back on a winning streak. We got to win our division game to get to the playoffs, period. It would be pretty painful, but it wouldn't be insurmountable.
