TAMPA - It was a perfect matchup in the Tampa Bay Invitational volleyball tournament championship Saturday, as the top two seeds and the only nationally ranked teams in the tournament battled for two hours to decide the outcome.

In the end, second-seeded Orlando Timber Creek, ranked 87th in the nation, upset top seed and 15th-ranked Berkeley Prep in four games, 27-25, 24-26, 26-24, 25-14.

The Buccaneers (20-2) lost in the tournament championship last year to Plant.

"We ran out of gas," Berkeley Prep coach Randy Dagostino said. "Running out of gas was more of a mental thing. We had some incredible matches in this event. We were tested once again."

Freshman Jordan Burgess led Berkeley Prep with 27 kills, while senior Christina Theofilos had 24 assists and 24 digs. Both were named to the all-tournament team.

Berkeley defeated St. Paul's of Mobile, Ala., 3-1, in the semifinals. Durant, which went 1-5 in the tournament, beat Tampa Prep in five games in the 15th-place match.

All-Tournament Team

Timber Creek - Jessica Yingling, Rachel Stacy. Berkeley Prep - Jordan Burgess, Christina Theofilos. St. Paul's - Catherine Rebarchak, Nancy Taylor. Pelham - Jasmine Clark, Lindsey Young. Silver Bracket - Mariah Woodson (Woodward Academy), Stephanie Zielinski (St. Thomas Aquinas), Courtney Treweek (P.K. Yonge), Krista Andersen (Lakeland).

SOFTBALL: Newsome sophomore shortstop Nicollette Levine has committed to the University of Florida. As a freshman, Levine hit .347 with 23 runs, 21 RBIs and two home runs to help the Wolves reach the Class 5A region final.
