University of South Florida trustees this week will consider raising the fees students pay for campus activities, health services and athletics.
Administrators say the $1.47 per-credit-hour increase is necessary to cover increased utility and security costs, student mental health counselors and student-athlete scholarships.
A student taking 15 credit hours a semester would pay about $22 more under the proposal, which trustees will consider at a meeting Thursday.
The new 230,000-square-foot Marshall Student Center represents one of the biggest reasons for the fee increase. In a memo to trustees, administrators say the day-to-day operations of the student center are drastically different than what was originally projected for the building and that payroll and utilities already are heavily over budget.
