ODESSA - It was a clean sweep Monday for Berkeley Prep at the Eagles, as the Bucs' boys and girls golf teams each won Class 1A-District 14 titles.
Twin sisters Kim and Kyleen Carpenter shot 78 and 81, respectively, on the par 72 Lakes Course to finish first and second overall in leading the girls to a team-total 347, which was 48 strokes better than runner-up Academy of the Holy Names.
The Bucs boys placed three in the top six – Blake Morris (72; second), R.J. Campbell (78; fifth) and Ren Scott (79; sixth) – and edged runner-up Jesuit by 17 strokes with a team-total 309.
"It is nice, very nice," Bucs coach Tom Shea said of the district sweep. "The boys have worked really hard. Blake's a hell of a player, but the supporting cast has been really good.
"I was looking for something a little lower [for the girls], but we'll take it. Basically, we've got to get a little lower if we want to give Northside Christian a run at regionals."
Jesuit's Jack Twomey claimed individual medalist honors for the boys with a 1-under 71, a rollercoaster round that included two eagles, three birdies, two bogeys and two double bogeys.
"I've had some pretty crazy rounds before, but that was pretty much the craziest because it was all over the place," Twomey said.
Tampa Prep took third in both the boys and girls competitions. Taylor Richardson's 90 led the girls, while Jonathan Wyble shot a 77 to lead the boys.
Tampa Catholic's Trent Stoker (76) and Tommy Spitale (89) each advanced to next week's region tournament as individuals, as did Oldsmar Christian's Jacob Peters (90).
On the girls side, CDS Prep's Lauren Coe (99), Tampa Catholic's Lorin Shulstad (107) and Cambridge Christian's Rachel Bode (111) advanced as individuals to next week's region tournament.

2A-10 BOYS
ODESSA Sometimes it's better to be the first group on a golf course during a tournament. Sometimes, it's not.
For Plant's Doug Letson, being first was just fine with him as he fired a 1-over-par 72 Monday at Silver Dollar Golf Club to lead the Panthers to their fourth consecutive district team championship.
Plant finished with 315, followed by Chamberlain and Gaither with 335. All three teams advance to next Monday's region tournament at Wentworth Golf Club.
The Plant senior, starting on the Silver Dollar Bobcat course, went out in 1-under-par 35 but as the wind picked up, the bogies started to mount for Letson.
"The win started as I made the turn and I had a couple bogies," said Letson, who tied for medalist in last year's region and finished tied for 12th at the state tournament. "But I finished strong."
Letson bogied Nos. 12, 13, 14 and 16 but finished par, birdie to post the 72, two strokes better than Chamberlain's Gary Buffington.
Although Plant coach Dan Vona was happy to win the tournament, he wasn't exactly pleased with his team's performance.
"I expect a little better from these guys," Vona said. "The layout was a little tricky today. No. 1 was really tricky."
Hole No. 1 was a 475-yard par 5 that wraps around the driving range. While Letson and Alonso's Kody Tibbetts – playing in the same group – were the only two players to birdie the hole, others had trouble. The hole played to a 7.13 stroke average and there were nine scores posted above 8 strokes, including three 11s and a 12.
Chamberlain's Gary Buffington was second with a 74 and Gaither's Joshua Black was third with a 76. The three players advancing to the region as individuals were Ryan Stone of Alonso (79), Tibbetts (80) and Sickles' Anthony Kuhn (85).

2A-12 BOYS
DUNEDIN On a windy day at his home course, Dunedin senior Justin Foster was off to a horrible start – 5-over through his first six holes.
Falcons coach Rich Edmonds suddenly got nervous that his two-time defending Pinellas County champions would falter in the Class 2A, District 12 tournament. But Foster shot 5-under in his last 12 holes, including an eagle at the 502-yard par-5 15th, to lead Dunedin (302 strokes) to the district title and take individual medalist honors at the venerable Dunedin Country Club.
"I'm just relieved to get out of here with a win," said Edmonds, who was already thinking about the daunting task of facing Plant in next week's regional at Wentworth Golf Club.
East Lake (319) and Mitchell (321) also advanced to Region 4 play. Ridgewood's Jordan Padova (76) and Jeff Koos (78) qualified as individuals, as did Matt Cote from Palm Harbor University (75). But Kote's teammate and defending district medalist, Zach Sobel, shot 80 and was the most notable player that failed to advance.
The Mustangs were led by a 74 from third-place individual finisher Kenny Cavender and a 79 from Isaac Schaefer. But for the second week in a row, they relied on a clutch score from their No. 5 player, Sterling Bash. His 85, posted more than an hour after Ridgewood finished, knocked the Rams out of a key spot in a tournament for the second week in a row.
"He's my secret weapon," said Mustangs coach Rick Hyatt. "He's been doing it for the whole last half of the season,"
Dunedin's Travis Huston, son of PGA Tour pro John Huston, was second overall with a 73. Padova had an eagle at the 335-yard, par-4 12th hole, hitting a lob wedge from 75 yards directly into the hole on the fly. Koos, who had a triple bogey on his second hole, bounced back with three birdies on his front nine.

2A-10 GIRLS
LUTZ Sickles sophomore Alex Milan won the 2A-10 district title for the second straight year shooting a three-under 69 at Heritage Harbor. Milan shot two under on the front nine including an eagle on eight and a birdie on the ninth hole.
Milan said windy conditions were a factor early in the day at Sickles home course, but she said she was confident and made the right adjustments.
"It was really windy so a couple of holes played a little different then they had," Milan said. "I was able to relax and get into a rhythm because I knew what I wanted to do at every hole."
Milan said her comfort level raised as she went on slowly separating herself from the top group.
"The girls I was playing with were within two strokes for a long time so I definitely had to play hard today."
According to Milan, she was confident she was in control after a birdie on the par-five 15th hole.
"I decided to hit driver even though I was debating it," Milan said. "I hit over these houses to get a better angle at the hole and hit the green in two. And that really made me turn the corner."
Gaither's Alex Bonham finished second in individuals with a 77 and Plant's Gen King finished third with a 78.
King helped lead Plant to its 10th straight district title along with Kelsey Eisch, Laura Hendee, Ashwini Bhide and Kaitlin McPeak as the team shot a score of 350. Although, only the top four scores counted for the total, all five members of the team finished in the top 13 individual scores. Sickles took the runner-up district team spot with a team score of 359.

2A-11 GIRLS
TAMPA The wind whipped up, but several players still shot low in the Class 2A, District 11 match at Heritage Isles Golf and Country Club -- the lowest score going to Durant freshman Madison Opfer with a 2-under-par 70.
For Durant, Opfer was one of four Cougars to play tough, including Erica Wardzinski (73), Amy West (76) and Kerrie Reinhardt (83), who combined for a team total of 302, 21 shots ahead of second-place Wharton (323).
"I'd have to say I'm very encouraged with the way everybody played today, and it makes me really confident (for next Monday's regional match, also held at Heritage Isles)," West said. "I actually didn't play great today (four penalty shots), which is another reason I'm excited to get back at it (next Monday)."
The top three teams from each district qualify for regionals, meaning Durant and Wharton, which split in head-to-head matches during the regular season and were 11-1 before Monday, will get another chance to face off.
Things could be a lot tighter next time around, especially if Wharton's No. 1 player, Shena Yang, plays like she is capable. On Monday, Yang, who came in with the district's lowest nine-hole scoring average at 36.9, struggled with a 7-over 79.
Only the top three teams qualify for regionals and that final third spot was claimed by Plant City, which shot 383, five strokes ahead of Newsome (383) and 20 in front of fifth-place Freedom (403).
On the individual side, King's Kelsey Gibson placed second with a 1-under 71, followed by Newsome's Jessica Alexander at even-par 72. Gibson, Alexander and Bloomingdale's Tori Saputo (82) will get to play in next week's regional because they were the top-three individual finishers not playing for one of the top three team qualifiers.
