The people involved in a murder-suicide attempt Thursday have died, Pasco County deputies said today.
Authorities say Steven E. Kane, 56, shot girlfriend Cathy Chorba, 46, then turned the gun on himself in woods near 31211 Secret Lane.
Kane died Friday night.
Chorba died Saturday morning.
"We believe that he drove out there, shot her, made a 911 phone call and then shot himself after the phone call," Pasco County Sheriff's Office spokesman Doug Tobin said last week.
Deputies were on the scene within five minutes of the 3:21 p.m. phone call. A man, now thought to be Kane, called about a possible suicide.
In the woods, deputies found Kane and Chorba seriously injured by single gunshots to the head. Kane and Chorba, who lived at 16003 Villa Drive in Viva Villas, were taken to Bayfront Medical Center.
They were found outside a 1989 Buick Century parked in grass about 10 feet west of Secret Lane. A .22-caliber rifle also was recovered.
A note was found at the scene, Tobin said. There has been no word on the content or who wrote it.
Investigators suspect a motive for his actions but have not released it, he said.
