TAMPA - A pan of grease left burning on a stovetop Monday night started a fire that caused $50,000 in damage to a home, Tampa Fire Rescue officials said.
No one was hurt and the fire was under control in about 15 minutes, authorities said.
Mae Johnson, who lives in the house at 7501 N. Dartmouth Ave., told fire investigators that she had cooked potatoes in a pan and thought she had turned the burner off.
Johnson and two of her children were outside in the yard about 6 p.m. when a third child ran out of the house and yelled the kitchen was on fire, investigators said.
The fire has been ruled accidental, investigators said.
Johnson and her children have found temporary lodging at a relative's home, officials said.
