TAMPA - The trial of a former Tampa police officer accused of killing his estranged wife's boyfriend was postponed today after the defendant attempted suicide.
Thomas Jackson Hall, 52, of Brooksville, tried to cut his wrists with a razor Friday, said Debbie Carter, a spokeswoman for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. She said Hall spent the weekend in the jail's infirmary and was returned to his cell Monday.
Hall was supposed to go to trial today before Hillsborough County Circuit Judge Wayne S. Timmerman, who continued the case.
Hall is accused of shooting Jason Mullis, 35, behind the Checkers restaurant at North Dale Mabry Highway and Northdale Boulevard on July 25, 2007.
Hall was a Tampa officer from October 1985 through July 2000 when he took a deferred retirement. At the time, he was under investigation, accused of falsifying documents about where he lived so he could drive his patrol car home. The resignation ended the investigation.
