TAMPA - A 28-year-old man walked into a CVS pharmacy at 9202 N. Florida Ave. on Saturday afternoon and gave the cashier a note.
"Put the money in the bag and there wont a problem," the note stated. "We have nothing to loose."
The robber implied there was a gun in his waistband, Tampa police said.
The store supervisor asked what was going on, and the cashier said she was being robbed, according to a police news release. The supervisor told the would-be robber to get out of the store, and he ran away without any money.
Police watched the surveillance video and put out an alert for the man. Several hours later, Cpl. James Wester was patrolling the area and spotted Christopher Wayne New, who ran when he saw the officer, police said.
Detective Gary Balcom and Officer Jerry Doherty searched the neighborhood and found New, who has no known address.
"How many years can I get for that? Maybe 10?" New asked the officers. "I need help. I have a drug problem. I need rehab."
He was charged with robbery, petty theft and trespassing and is being held in the Orient Road Jail on $8,250 bail.
