Two people, including a student, suffered minor injuries Tuesday afternoon when a car turned into the path of a school bus in Polk County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Nerys D. Nunez, 22, the driver of a 1999 Kia four-door sedan, was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center and treated for back and neck pain, the highway patrol said. A student on the school bus was also taken to the Lakeland hospital where she was treated and released.
Nunez was traveling south on George Wheeler Road west of Lakeland about 2 p.m. and turned left onto West Bella Vista Street, into the path of an eastbound bus. The school bus driver, Roseita C. Patterson, 46, veered right and braked, but the left front of the bus collided with the back of Nunez's car, the highway patrol said.
Patterson, and 26 other students on the bus, were not hurt, authorities said. Nunez was given a citation for violation of the right-of-way.
