CLEARWATER - An Oregon man was booked into the Pinellas County Jail Monday afternoon on a 24-year-old accusation of trying to force himself upon a man in a car, according to court records.
Robert Joseph Huffman, 58, of Winston, Oregon, is charged with attempted sexual battery and false imprisonment. He had worked through an attorney to surrender to the charges and was released on $20,000 bail.
On April 9, 1984, a man had accepted a ride from Huffman in Largo, court records state. Huffman stopped the car at a closed service station and told the man he wanted to perform a sex act on him, the records state.
When the man refused, Hoffman tried to force the act, the records state. A Pinellas Sheriff's sergeant then walked up to the car, and Huffman sat up suddenly, court records state. The other man was trembling and had tears in his eyes, the records state.
It could not be determined how Huffman evaded the allegations for nearly a quarter of a century.
