CLEARWATER - Allegiant Air will add its 20th nonstop destination from St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport with flights to Plattsburgh, N.Y., beginning Dec. 20.
Introductory one-way fares, not including fees and taxes, will be $99 for the flights that operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
In addition, the Pinellas airport will gain additional frequencies on Allegiant routes both for the Christmas holiday season and from Feb. 15 through Easter, the peak visitors season for the county's beaches, airport director Noah Lagos said.
"Allegiant is planning a big spike in their services," Lagos said of the Las Vegas-based carrier. It is one of less than a handful of airlines that has remained profitable in the past year by carefully adding and subtracting flights and routes to conform to passenger demand.
Two of Allegiant's aircraft are based at St. Petersburg-Clearwater International and the number will grow to four by spring.
"We have suffered our bad news with flight cuts and now we are celebrating our good news," Lagos said.
