TAMPA - West Tampa is getting some TLC.
Homes will be rehabbed and roads made pedestrian-friendly before Super Bowl XLIII kicks off Feb. 1 at Raymond James Stadium.
Rebuilding Together Tampa Bay announced Tuesday that it will rehabilitate 15 homes in the Old West Tampa neighborhood. The upgrades could include new roofs and bathrooms, landscaping and exterior painting.
The 14th year of the program, which is a partnership with the National Football League and is conducted in the Super Bowl host city, is named Kickoff to Rebuild. An estimated 500 volunteers will help Jan. 30, with prepping beginning weeks before. The estimated cost is $150,000.
Hillsborough County also announced Tuesday that it will improve crosswalks at seven intersections on Howard and Armenia avenues and boost street parking by 83 spaces.
County Administrator Pat Bean estimated labor costs for the project at $175,000 and hopes materials will be donated.
Work will begin this month and end before the Super Bowl, Bean said.
