OTTAWA - Canada's national media are projecting that Prime Minister Stephen Harper, the first major world leader to face election since the global financial meltdown, has led his Conservative Party to victory in Tuesday's election.
Canadian Broadcasting Corp. and the Canadian Press both forecast that the Conservatives will win enough Parliament seats to at least form another minority government.
Harper called the election early in hopes his party could win enough seats to take a majority and govern without the need for opposition support to adopt legislation.
Liberal leader Stephane Dion's campaign was hindered by his unpopular plan to tax all fossil fuels except gasoline.
