TAMPA - Carnival Cruise Lines and Holland America Line, which sail out of the Port of Tampa, will raise ticket prices by an undisclosed amount but eliminate fuel surcharges for 2010 cruises, parent company Carnival Corp. said.
The Miami-based cruise company on Friday also established guidelines under which the current fuel supplement may be reimbursed to consumers for 2008 and 2009 voyages, depending on fuel prices.
Guests who book a 2010 cruise before Oct. 31 will be charged the fuel supplement but will be eligible for refunds.
For passengers in 2008 or 2009, the cruise line has a complicated formula to refund money. If the price of crude oil on the New York Mercantile Exchange Index is $70 a barrel or less at the 2:30 p.m. close of daily trading on each of 25 consecutive trading days up to five trading days before a passenger's cruise departure, the fuel supplement will be refunded in the form of a shipboard credit.
Oil was priced at $81 Tuesday morning.
Carnival sails the Inspiration and the Carnival Legend from the Port of Tampa to Mexico and the Cayman Islands and Holland America sails the Veendam on Western Caribbean cruises.
