SEMINOLE HEIGHTS - A sports bar and grill on Nebraska Avenue could be serving beer and wings in time for the Super Bowl.
Owner and developer Greg Smith began construction on an approximately 3,000-square-foot restaurant a few weeks ago. The goal is to open by mid-January.
Raymond James Stadium will host the Super Bowl on Feb. 1.
Richys Themes Sports Lounge, 6401 N. Nebraska Ave., will seat 100 and have 40 parking spaces. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served, and about 10 flat-screen televisions will air football, baseball, basketball, boxing and pay-per-view special events.
Smith hopes the NFL's big game will be the big draw for the restaurant's grand opening.
"That's what we're pushing for," he said.
In October 2007, the city council approved beer and wine sales for the restaurant. The council granted a waiver for the license because the restaurant will be within 1,000 feet of residences. Construction plans include a masonry wall as a buffer.
In addition, the council required that parking spaces be at least 20 feet from a grand tree near the center of the vacant lot.
