TAMPA - Lee Edward Cook Jr. used a belt to beat a 6-year-old relative because the boy didn't do his homework, Tampa police say.
And a 2-year-old child was left unattended, police said.
Police arrested Cook on Wednesday afternoon at 4109 W. Gandy Blvd., charging him with child abuse and child neglect.
There were bruises on the 6-year-old's buttocks and legs, and many of the injuries did not appear recent, police spokeswoman Andrea Davis said.
Davis said it wasn't immediately clear whether the boy needed to go to a hospital.
The Department of Children and Families was contacted. The two children now are with their mother, Davis said.
Cook, 25, of Tampa, was released from Orient Road Jail after posting $9,500 bail.
