TRINITY - It's the time of year for things that go bump in the night.
What better way to set the stage than to attend an art exhibit and Halloween bash from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Commons, 7813 Mitchell Blvd.
This is a first-of-its-kind event at the shopping center, between Seven Springs Boulevard and Little Road.
Local artists and photographers will exhibit their creations and there will be free food, candy for youngsters and a wine tasting with a meet-the-candidate event for Paula O'Neil, who is running for clerk of court.
Trinity Pet Hospital is having a craft sale and serving free pizza and wine by the glass for a $5 donation with proceeds benefiting Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
Attendees will view an unusual collection of photography by Paula Showen and Cheryl Molennor.
According to Showen, "the photographs will be reflectionism in a style that captures the dark side of emotions and relationships."
Reflectionism is a philosophy that holds the universe reflects back the energy a person puts out.
Most of the photographs will be shot specifically for the event, Showen added.
Both photographers are stepping outside of their normal style of photography.
Artist Michelle Astuto-Collins will present "Welcome to My Imagination - Please Excuse the Mess," which consists of pieces she created in which she captures emotions through bold use of color.
Susan Holland, a mixed media artist who appeared at Progress Energy art gallery this summer, will mesmerize attendees with the "Cat Keeper."
Holland will display masks she creates using elements from nature and fabric, beads and acrylic paint.
Folk artist Judy Case Redder will join the event with more traditional folk art using acrylics and color pencils.
Case Redder specializes in custom artwork that includes the subjects' personal thoughts, home, items and memories into paintings she is commissioned to create.
Casey Yaskovic will display his psychedelic artwork to bring color and unusual subject matter to the evening.
Aqua Terra, a salon that offers services such as haircuts and massages, is sponsoring food by La Dolce Vita, including stuffed sausage pinwheels, a mini version of spanakopita, focaccia bread with tomato and garlic, and chicken salad.
Guests may sample Evil chardonnay and cabernet wines from Austria, as well as white and red house wines from California at The Wine Loft, where folks can meet O'Neil from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
The hosts of the event will don costumes to set the mood and attendees are welcome to wear costumes as well.
