NEW PORT RICHEY - Just before 9 p.m. Tuesday, a Pasco deputy went to Walgreens at Sunray Drive and U.S. 19 to check out a report of a "suspicious person."

What he found was a man with a large bleeding cut, saying he was in pain and needing medical attention.

"I think I'm dying," the man said after admitting he had smoked crack a while earlier, according to a Pasco County Sheriff's Office report.

Shortly after the man was taken by ambulance, he ripped the IV out of his arm and removed the protective straps around his body. While a paramedic tried to restrain Martin Kyle Barry, the paramedic was kicked in the stomach twice, according to the reports. The ambulance driver pulled over and the original deputy met them and went inside the ambulance to help and was kicked in the back, causing her to hit her head on the door while almost falling out of the vehicle, reports say.

Barry ran out and Deputy Angela Foster deployed her Taser, but missed. Another deputy arrived and ordered Barry to stop but he didn't and faced the deputy, putting up his arms and clenching his fist, a report states. Deputy Michael Shoup fired his Taser hitting Barry in the back.

Barry was arrested on charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, battery on a health care provider and simple assault on a law enforcement officer. He was being held Wednesday at Land O' Lakes Jail with bail set at $10,250.
