ST. PETERSBURG - NFL owners discussed playing spring preseason games as part of a possible expansion of the regular-season schedule.
No action was taken by the owners as they wrapped up their meetings Wednesday. No change in the regular-season schedule is expected for 2009.
BROWNS: TE Kellen Winslow, hospitalized last week with an undisclosed illness, remains at home under doctors' orders. Coach Romeo Crennel offered no timetable for his return.
COLTS: DT John McCargo failed his physical, voiding the trade that sent him from the Bills to the Colts and sending his rights back to the Bills, Colts spokesman Craig Kelley confirmed. The Buffalo News, citing two sources, reported the Colts found a bulging disc in his back, a detail Kelley could not confirm.
COWBOYS: QB Tony Romo wants to attempt to practice and play this week despite breaking his right pinkie Sunday. He did not practice Wednesday, but he has not been ruled out of Sunday's game. "If Romo didn't practice at all, no, he wouldn't play because he broke his pinkie," Coach Wade Phillips said.
STEELERS: RB Willie Parker was unexpectedly held out of practice Wednesday after aggravating the sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee.
