TAMPA - A Jan. 20 trial date was set Thursday for Tyrone Lamont Grimes, who is accused of killing a bystander in a Brandon bar shooting.
Hillsborough County Circuit Judge Daniel H. Sleet set the trial date after a status conference with the lawyers in the case. Sleet also scheduled a pretrial conference for Jan. 14.
Authorities said Grimes killed Karen Williams, a 36-year-old mother of three, when three shots were fired inside Fluid, a nightclub at 2016 Town Center Blvd.
Grimes has denied being the shooter, saying he was attacked by two other men and the gun discharged during the struggle.
He remains in jail; bail has been denied pending trial
A judge revoked bail for Grimes in September, when deputies accused him of threatening a witness and smoking marijuana while he was released.
