LAND O' LAKES - It could be a trend.

Larry Wainwright is at least the second Tampa Bay area resident taking his job hunt to the streets.

Wainwright, who has been laid off twice this year, began handing out his resumes last week at the intersection of State Road 54 and U.S. 41 in a last-ditch effort to find work. He continued this week, holding a sign to attract motorists' attention as he marched up and down the median.

He finished his first day with sunburn, but is undeterred.

"I won't sit home anymore," said Wainwright, 49, a Zephyrhills resident. "I'm three to five weeks away from being homeless."

A week ago, Kathy Maloney, who has been jobless for five months, handed out resumes to motorists on Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa.

Wainwright holds an associate's degree in computer engineering and said he worked for nearly 10 years at BayCare Health Systems, most recently as a senior systems support analyst, before his position was eliminated in April.

Hospital Offers Advanced Wound Care

PLANT CITY - South Florida Baptist Hospital for the first time has a high-tech therapy for wounds that resist healing.

The hospital, 301 N. Alexander St., installed a hyperbaric chamber last month. The technology is the same that's used for divers who get into trouble on deep sea dives and need oxygen to recover from the bends.

The Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine offers care for patients who have acute and chronic wounds that aren't healing.

Until now, patients have had to travel to Tampa or Lakeland for the hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which requires treatments five days a week and between 20 and 40 visits.

Reporters Ronnie Blair, B.C. Manion, Lenora Lake and Dave Nicholson contributed to this report.
