TAMPA - Tampa International Airport will soon open new security lanes for passengers which will allow them to choose checkpoint paths based on their familiarity with airport security procedures.
The Transportation Security Administration's new lane concept is intended to separate passengers familiar with removing shoes and other clothing items and getting laptop computers ready for inspection from those less familiar with airport security who might need assistance.
The system aims to expedite passenger movement through security lines and is in place at more than 40 U.S. airports. It will be phased into all four of Tampa International's airsides - the outlying terminals where passengers board aircraft - by Thanksgiving, airport director Louis Miller said Thursday.
BLACK DIAMOND: Intended for business or frequent flyers
BLUE SQUARE: For travelers who might require more assistance from security officers
GREEN CIRCLE: Additional TSA staff to help large groups and families, infrequent travelers, and passengers requiring special assistance
