LAND O' LAKES - A man accused of kidnapping and assaulting a woman in Tampa last month picked up a related sexual battery charge in Pasco County this week.
Urben James Braun Jr., 61, of Dunedin, was being held in the Land O' Lakes Jail on Thursday with bail set at $75,000, jail records showed.
According to arrest records:
Braun offered a ride home to a woman walking near Bearrs Avenue and Zambito Road north of Tampa. Instead of taking her home, Braun tied her up, handcuffed her and drove her to a garage he rented near U.S. 41 and State Road 54 in Land O' Lakes, where he sexually battered her. He also is accused of threatening to kill the woman if she tried to escape his vehicle.
After a couple of hours at the garage, the victim waved down a Hillsborough County sheriff's deputy while Braun was driving her back through the area where he picked her up, records show. She had glue around her eyes from duct tape used to blindfold her and ligature marks on her wrists.
Braun told investigators he thought the woman was a prostitute and had paid her $50, but no money was found on the victim.
Hillsborough County authorities arrested Braun on charges of false imprisonment, kidnapping and two counts of sexual battery.
