THE DIFFERENCE: Trailing 24-14 with 1:31 left in the game, Freedom QB Josh Grady threw a 20-yard TD pass to Sherrod Cunningham to pull the Patriots within three. The following onside kick bounced off a Durant player and into the arms of a Freedom player, but he couldn't hold on. Durant recovered the kick and ran the clock out, preserving its first road win of the year and ruining Freedom's homecoming.
GAME NOTES: Grady finished with 17 completions in 34 pass attempts for 235 yards. ... Freedom receiver Jacari Campbell caught five passes for 73 yards in the second half and finished with six for 117 yards. ... Cunningham also had two rushing TDs. ... T.J. Mutcherson had an interception and Michael Scaglioni had a sack for the Patriots, who fell to 1-5. ... Durant QB Je'twan Smith ran the ball 11 times for 73 yards and completed six of his 11 pass attempts for 76 yards. ... John Hicks ran seven times for 60 yards, scoring three rushing TDs. ... Billy Whitcomb intercepted a pass for Durant (4-3).
STAT OF THE GAME: The first two quarters were polar opposites. In the first quarter, Durant went up 14-0 thanks to a 132-16 edge in yards. In the second quarter Freedom tied it at 14 thanks to a 133-2 edge in yards.
