PHCC Campus Goes 'State Of The Art'

NEW PORT RICHEY - Pasco-Hernando Community College formally introduced the public Friday to its new conference and instructional center, a two-building complex that took about one year and $8.6 million to build.

"Despite the economic uncertainty that our nation faces and despite our collective concern about the future, these buildings represent so much that is positive," college President Katherine Johnson said at a dedication ceremony.

Johnson expressed gratitude to state legislators, including Sen. Mike Fasano, R-New Port Richey, former Sen. Jack Latvala, R-Palm Harbor, and former Rep. Ken Littlefield, R-Wesley Chapel, for their efforts in securing the funding.

The conference center can accommodate up to 200 people or be divided into two smaller meeting rooms. The instructional center has 12 classrooms, one computer lab, eight faculty offices and two breakout rooms for conference activities.

The two structures, designed by SchenkelShultz Architecture and built by Skanska USA Building, are joined by a covered walkway.

"We are thrilled these state-of-the-art facilities will prepare our students for the growing sophistication of the modern workplace," said Judy Parker, a member of the PHCC board of trustees.

PHCC has more than 9,000 students, about 5,200 of whom attend classes on the New Port Richey campus. The college also has campuses in Dade City and Brooksville.
